Thanks for the suggestions! I'm having trouble with the 5.2 task--Chinese or Vietnamese culture books. I recently read Lisa See and thought the book was ok, but am not so interested in her that I want to dive in to another one right away. I also checked out the link above and (shockingly) have read a majority of the top ten on that list. Any lower than that and I don't trust 'em :) (btw- I read Wild Swans in college for an Asian studies class and it was amazing! highly recommended for those who haven't picked something yet)
Any other CL readers have suggestions? Trying to get creative with it. Too bad Dan Brown's new book doesn't have a Chinese character in it...that's on the priority to read list. I assume the fact that I just watched the movie Rescue Dawn won't suffice?
Also, for the last task that I helped created, I noticed that going to my local library's web page and or local newspapers web page and searching those sites for local authors brought up a slew of books to choose from.

jaydek,
The Things They Carried (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/133518.The_Things_They_Carried) is supposed to be very good. It about a vietnam soldier. Although it's been around for awhile, it is making it's way around reading circles again now. I have it on my to-read list. I imagine it will be intense, but worth it.
