I have yet to see the original, foreign, version of this movie. I loved the book version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and have heard from several blogging friends that the original movie is great!
We already know that the rights have been bought to the American version, but did you know they have already started casting? I read this article from EW Online and almost crapped my pants -- in a bad way. Brad Pitt? Scarlet Johansson? Ugh, I might boycott the movie if people like that are cast. In no recess of my mind was Blomkvist a Brad Pitt look alike, or did (the supposedly anorexic looking) Lisbeth have curves the size of Johansson's. They also mention Natalie Portman and Carey Mulligan, and while both small in stature I don't consider either one of these actresses tough enough to pull off Lisbeth. She's more of an Angelina Jolie to me without all the pomp and circumstance (and no, I am not suggesting Jolie -- but maybe an unknown rogue-ish Jolie type). The other two mentioned were Daniel Craig (really? I mean, I guess he's a little bit closer than Pitt) and Kristen Stewart (will she ever be anything other than a teenage angsty-vampire-connected girl now?)
I'm hoping those names were just to throw people of the path of who's really being cast. Scott Rudin, who spent a year and a half getting the rights to this book, says, “I would be careful about believing what you’re reading. Let me remind you that Katharine Hepburn was at one point announced to be Scarlett O’Hara. [Laughs] That’s not to say that it won’t end up being one of them, but you can certainly say it isn’t any of them yet.”
What are your thoughts about the article (or the above information)?
Any ideas on who should play the characters?
Does it help to know that the producer who owns the rights loves the series and read (and fell in love with them) before obtaining the rights?
