I learned so much yesterday. Though you probably didn't notice many changes here on the blog, I have lists of things that I want to do. Posts that I want to write, techy stuff that needs to be done, and mostly a myriad of ideas about blog networking. I have been particularly bad at networking and getting to know other's blogs. I read blogs, and I bookmark the heck out of them. But then I can never rememeber which folder I put them in, or which ones were the ones I like the most or got that idea from or saw that picture on... blah, blah, blah.
If you are like me you might find it interesting that you can organize your Google Reader (or any other type of Reader, I imagine) and have all the blogs ready and organized for your reading! I am LOVING it! It was a mini challenge by Rebecca at The Book Lady's Blog but also a great article written by Carrie at Carrie Actually.
She's right, subscribing is the new bookmarking and I have subscribed to numerous wonderful blog finds in the past 24 hours (and organized them as I was subscribing so I didn't get bogged down). I have also learned the valuable lesson of subscribing-- a Golden Nugget if you will: If you subscribe, you get the feed even if the website goes down! The Blogiesta website has been down for awhile this morning and I hadn't subscribed (you bet I'll be subscribing as soon as it's up) so I haven't been able to see any of the challenge posts!
I have also started commenting on some of the new-to-me blogs via the mini challenge by Cass at Bonjour, Cass! This is stretching for me because I get nervous commenting when I haven't been reading a blog for very long. I usually have to read it for awhile before I get comfortable. But the funny thing about that is I feel like the blogger and I have gotten to know each other, and therefore I am now comfortable commenting when in reality the blogger still doesn't know who I am! Haha! I am still a stranger to them until I start commenting, and then they get to know me just like I am getting to know them by reading their blog. This mirrors real life for me (I tend to be shy and quieter around strangers and much more outspoken around those I know) so it is no surprise. But the challenge to myself is to start commenting earlier and more often building a two way relationship with my favorite bloggers instead of just having a one sided reading relationship (what some call "lurking" -- guilty as charged!) and leaving a comment once in a blue moon when I feel really comfortable (if I waited until I felt comfortable to talk to a stranger I wouldn't ever speak to anyone -- haha! -- imagine what that would be like).
Ok, off to do more Blogiesta and see if the website is back up. Ole!
